Precision in Player Development

Transcript:

You got 250 and 300 kids in there, which for my day jobs, not a big deal, but I'm helping one of the player development guys run it and we're doing speed athletic stuff, then station drills. You're just one of a number with those kids you know, I'm saying, and I know people get sucked in brains and parents get caught up into those things, but at the end of the day, people always say development. What does that really mean? It's not like a football coach says, oh, that guy's got good feet. Explain to me what good feet means. I know what it should looks like, or you're saying because it can move fast, what does development really look like? So when it comes down to it, how do you, what are your assessments to develop a kid? How do you know where they're really at? How do you know what their body can really do? Biomechanically, those are things that Wes knows very, very well. A couple of his support staff know it very well. I know for myself I've been able to contribute with that as well through movement screens. You know, if you're looking at a kid who's having a hard time with his swing or pitching because, you know, let's just say dropping the hands or shoulder hip separation type, some of those items there, they can't hinge very well. Well, it's because, you know, the big toe is tight, the kill is tenants tight. There's things there you have to really break down that a big box   place is never going to do. We're in US Athletic, we actually have the time to do those things. As coaches, we're able to collaborate on items 24/7 you know. There's different coaches who have strengths in other areas. I know what my strength is and we share and then these kids really get more personal attention. That to me is what's really important to it all. Again, like I said, I've coached the gamut of all the big box places. Now, I've been at Wes's, but you know, Wes is a phone call away. He'll show up when you need he'll to come to games. He'll help you as needed where you're not going to get that. A lot of those big box places, you might get a returned email or a little bit of support, but somebody physically be there, it's not going to happen.
